Parents & Teens

It doesn’t matter which of my friends it is, regardless of how much they make an hour, where they live or how devoted they are as parents. Their Teen runs their life, there is a constant worry on your part if you are going to get a call at 3:00am that your child overdosed or was stabbed or sometimes worse was arrested for doing so. So how do we reach our teens?

We are the un-cool parents who know nothing remember. Many parents take the approach of being your Childs friend. I can respect that, as that is my own philosophy and I have taken this one to heart; You Cannot be their friend all the time, at the end of the day. You’re the boss!
What you say goes. This can be related to children of all ages, don’t just say no you cannot go to the party, or no you cannot watch TV. Engage them in a healthy dialog look at their eyes light up when you talk to them about what interests them…

Challenging your kids to think, and respond in a respectful manner from a young age will ease this process along. Sit down and have a talk with your kids, nobody talks anymore we text we email but there is no communication which is key to the family structure. If you cannot sit down and be real and honest with your child then how can you expect that from them?

Remember when you were a teen. (Keeping in mind this is a totally different generation) some of us were rebellious just for the heck of it. Because it was cool, some of us thought it was cool to work hard before we played hard. Well in this day and age, parents are classified as uncool and usually used as an ATM. But in all fare-ness don’t have kids unless you’re willing to spend the money.
In the states it cost’s $10,000 just to deliver the Baby, let alone the $250,000 estimated costs of raising a child to the age of 19. That’s right add it up….

I have two children and a third on the way myself, I am 19 years old and have over 5 years of management experience because when I was 13 I decided to go my own way (rebellious) and got hired as a manager at McDonalds (impressive I know) But what do you expect at thirteen.

One thing I noticed while going my own way, was people generally give teenagers a hard time, they are expected to act better and have more self-control. I know that on the job I was as mature as I could be including not engaging in horse play. But there is an air of dis-respect between adults and teens of all ages. I myself being 19 still get looks from 40 year old when I am telling them what to do. (I’m the store manager) and I get an attitude and so on, but I do find that those people were the teenagers partying every night, didn’t go to school and now you have some kid bossing you around at work. Well say la vie, If you do not explain the rules to your kids and why they will pass on those bad habits, just think about everything your parent did that upset you. Why did they do it? Why did it upset you?

If you do not discipline your children, someone else will. Their boyfriend, the state, anybody who comes into contact with this stray youth and doesn’t like where their at. Trust me you don’t want the world disciplining your kids, the world doesn’t love your kids. You do.
